You probably know this as an entrepreneur: you need capital for your business or concept. This support often comes from outside sources — i.e. those who aren’t relatives or friends. So, you need to communicate your ideas to potential funders (also known as angel investors) so that they are excited to invest in your startup business. In other words, you’re going to need a “pitch deck”.

PITCH DECK? WHAT IS IT?

The pitch deck also called a slide deck or pitch slide deck is the first form of interaction to raise funding from potential investors/angel investors in India. The contents of the pitch deck and your presentation can help the investor to see if your business opportunity can be continued to be assessed or not.

Pitch Deck for investors is a presentation that lets potential investors learn more about your business/startup company and therefore, as odd as it can sound, a pitch desk’s primary objective is not to obtain finance — it’s to move to the next meeting. Hence, making it a great, or probably the best investment plan.

Funding is a multistage method. The first rung on the ladder is a fine, insightful Pitch Deck. You’re going to want to pose an idea to investors that intrigue them and will get them to engage with you.

A presentation on a pitch deck typically consists of several slides to help you tell a compelling story about your business. You may build an out-of-the-box presentation with a traditional program such as PowerPoint or using the modern tools of your liking.

HOW DOES A PITCH DECK WORK?

A pitch deck is typically a 10–20 slide show designed to provide you with a concise overview of your business strategy, your project vision, and the company strategy. The rule of thumb is no more than 19 slides in a pitch deck.

There are also several different reasons for a Pitch Presentation Deck, ranging from attempting to meet up with a potential investor to delivering it on stage and securing the next meeting.

The venture pitch deck is typically used in face-to-face meetings with prospective buyers, clients and partners, and online meetings.

In comparison to the canvas business model, a pitch deck is a symbolic device for the general public that is used for a greater understanding of the business strategy and structure.

A pitch deck must be an all-round presentation that shows the sponsor the concept of the company. To the investor, Pitch Deck helps explain his questions regarding the corporate strategy.

In fact, under some conditions, the potential or angel investors can request that the pitch deck be submitted before the meeting, so it should also be self-explanatory.

Different types of business models include different types of pitch decks. Specifications differ concerning expenditure, market structure, financial model, location, market stage, and other main parameters.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN A PITCH DECK PRESENTATION?

A pitch deck will represent your company. The pitch deck should not only answer all investors’ business questions but should also be attractive. A great pitch deck begins with the problem, includes its business model and ends with the future projections. Here’s what you can include in a pitch deck:

  1. The first slide is an important slide on your pitch deck. Now is your opportunity to make a first impression, so make sure you don’t waste now an opportunity. Use some creative lines to define your product or service.

Take a short and simple introduction slide — tell people who you are and why you’re here.

2. Which “problem” in the market your product is trying to eliminate. This must be a frustrating dilemma with which people can connect and with which investors have no problems with comprehension.

3. The “solution” to your presented problem. Stop claims indicating that you are the only one doing this, that you are the obvious leader, etc. The answer must be descriptive, very simple, and comprehensible.

4. The “market” decides whether or not you get your capital. When you are operating on a small market, the potential ROIs may be too low or too risky to fund you.

Use a graph if possible, detailing past market growth and future potential growth so that investors can calculate their investment’s upside and potential ROIs.

5. The wait is over for not talking and gloating about your “product or service”. That is the part where you are showing off the real product or service that your company offers.

If it’s a physical product, add the professional pictures from various angles of your product.

Consider adding examples that show the most special functions of your website or service.

6. This diagram will all be about your “business growth” — the revenue figures you’ve achieved, the big objectives you’ve accomplished so far, and the next steps. If it’s a start-up and your development is not up to a certain level, do not include this slide.

7. The slide should include “members of your core team”. The investor is interested in these people’s motivation and what makes them special enough to see the success of this project.

8. Use this slide to show who is your “competitor”, and why you are unique from it.

9. Investors spend the bulk of time looking at “financial slides” on the pitch deck.

It will include information on your business model and finances for your company’s expected growth over the coming three to five years.

10. Should not forget to remind investors of what you “expect” of them before you wrap up.

But, let them know what you want to do with the funds instead of asking for just a certain amount of funding.

This helps create trust and encourages investors to take you seriously when you explain your request to invest in your business. Make them believe that investing in your business is a smart investment.
